National Bank of Scotland War Memorial (Edinburgh)

The National Bank of Scotland Limited War Memorial - unveiled in 1921 at the banks headquarters at St. Andrew Square, Edinburgh, and relocated in 2006 by The Royal Bank of Scotland to their new headquarters at Gogarburn, Edinburgh.

Included amongst the names on this memorial is:

JAMES RENNY

Second Lieutenant, "B" Company, 4/5th (Angus & Dundee) Battalion (Territorial Force), Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

Killed in action during the attack at Tower Hamlets Ridge on 26 September 1917.  Age 27.

Born at Aberlemno, Angus, and enlisted in June 1915 as a Private soldier with the 15th (Reserve) Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.  Commissioned in August 1916 with 5th (Angus & Dundee) Battalion (Territorial Force), Black Watch (Royal Highlanders).

Son of William Renny, Police Inspector, and Jane Ann Renny (nee Petrie), of The Police Station, Reform Street, Kirriemuir, Angus.  One of three brothers who served in the Army during the war.
