Lochlee War Memorial, Tarfside, Glenesk, Angus

IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF LOCHLEE PARISH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914–1918.

THEY DID THEIR DUTY AND THEIR BIT.

 ROBERT CHRISTISON

Private 201630, 4/5th (Angus & Dundee) Battalion (Territorial Force), Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

Killed in action on 1st August 1918. Age 35.

Born at Glenesk and enlisted at Perth.

Son of Robert Christison and Jessie Christison (nee Pratt) of Dalhousie Cottage, Tarfside.

 

JAMES ORR CRUICKSHANK

Private 200176, 4th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders

Died of wounds on 15th April 1915.

Born and resident at Brechin; enlisted at Aberdeen.

Son of Samuel Cruickshank, Schoolmaster, and Agnes Cruickshank (nee Hodge).

 

ALEXANDER DUNBAR

Private 1777, 4/5th (Angus & Dundee) Battalion (Territorial Force), Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

Killed in action near Beaumont Hamel on 3rd September 1916. Age 23.

Born at Brechin and enlisted at Lochlee.

Son of Joseph Dunbar of Drumgreen, Glenesk.

 

ANDREW DUNCAN

Lance Sergeant 6526, 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders

Killed in action on 14th November 1914.

Born at Lochlee and enlisted at Edinburgh.

 

JOHN STEWART

Private 240038, 4/5th (Angus & Dundee) Battalion (Territorial Force), Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

Died on 3rd November 1918.

Born at Brechin and enlisted at Tarfside.

 

WILLIAM STEWART

Private 2530, 1st Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

Died of wounds on 27th January 1915.

Born at Laurencekirk and enlisted at Dundee.

 

DAVID PETER STORMONTH

Private S/43119, 1st Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

Died of wounds on 16th April 1916. Age 20.

Born at Brechin and enlisted at Forfar.

Son of David R. I. Stormonth and Georgina Stormonth (nee Davidson) of The Haugh, Lochlee.
