Cargill War Memorial, A94 at Burrelton

Included amongst the names on this memorial is:

ALEXANDER SIMPSON

Sergeant 1562, 4/5th (Angus & Dundee) Battalion (Territorial Force), Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

Killed in action near Hamel on 3 September 1916.  Age 46.

Born at Forfar and enlisted at Kirriemuir, Angus.

A veteran of the Boer War.  Son of George Simpson, of 22 West Mary Street, Arbroath, and the Agnes Simpson (nee Mollison); husband of Jane Simpson, and father of four young children, of 3 Croft Terrace, Kirriemuir, Angus.
