ERECTED BY THE INHABITANTS OF THE PARISH OF AUCHTERHOUSE IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING WHO BELONGED TO THE PARISH.

PETER BATCHELOR

Gunner 89745, "V" 12th Division Trench Mortar Battery, Royal Field Artillery

Killed in action on Saturday, 21st July 1917. Age 20.

Native of Ballunie, Coupar Angus; lived at Dronley, Angus, and enlisted at Perth.

Son of Peter and Helen Batchelor, of Baledgarno Farm, Inchture, Perthshire.

WINDMILL BRITISH CEMETERY

 

ROBERT YOUNG BURRY

Wireless Operator, SS "Arab" (Shanghai), Mercantile Marine

Lost at sea on Thursday, 17th January 1918. Age 17.

Born at Alyth.

Son of Alexander and Elizabeth Burry (nee Young), of Eastfield, Auchterhouse.

formerly Private 16959, 56th Training Reserve.

Lost at sea on Saturday, 30th March 1918. Age 19.

Born at Kingennie, Angus; lived at Dundee, and enlisted at Perth.

Son of David and Jemima Roberts McLeod, of Kirkton, Auchterhouse.

DAVID DALRYMPLE MITCHELL

Private 768214, 28th Battalion, London Regiment (Artists' Rifles)

& 20th Officer Training Corps

Died on Thursday, 24th October 1918. Age 33.

Lived and enlisted at Dundee.

Son of Peter Dochart Mitchell and Jessie R. Mitchell, of Balbeuchly, Angus; husband of F. Marjory Mitchell, of St. Helen's, Downfield, Dundee.

Private 4241, 4/5th (Angus & Dundee) Battalion (Territorial Force), Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

Died of wounds on Wednesday, 21st June 1916. Age 32.

Born at Auchterarder, Perthshire; lived at Scotston, Angus, and enlisted at Dundee.

Husband of Isabella Nicolson, of 2 Lily Bank, Kirriemuir.
