The Final Battalion Reunion

On Wednesday 11 September 1974 a complimentary dinner was held at The Royal British Legion Club, 8 Helen Street, Arbroath, to honour the surviving members of the Battalion and in commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of their landing in France.

The surviving 1914 veterans of 5th (Angus & Dundee) Battalion, Black Watch, in 1974.

Identified from the veterans who attended are:

Reverend Kenneth Cole, Mr James Anderson Davidson (Treasurer), Mr James Wilson Donaldson of Friockheim, and Montrose men Mr Albert Keay, Mr Albert Edwards, Mr Alfred Robb, Mr James Clark, and Mr Alfred William Aitken.  At the time of going to France with the Battalion in 1914, Mr Aitken and Mr Edwards were only aged 15 years and 17 years respectively.

Also identified is the Chairman, Colonel G. W. Dunn, CBE, DSO, MC, TD, DL, and Brigadier J. A. Oliver, CB, CBE, DSO, TD, DL, LLD, of the Black Watch.
